Creating a Region

Last Updated: May 12, 2016 11:53AM CDT
Region Overview
The BlueCats platform manages static advertising values through Regions. Regions define the identifier scheme available to beacons in that region. A region can define both iBeacon and Eddystone-UID identifiers.

Once an iBeacon key or Eddystone-UID has been assigned to a beacon in the BlueCats platform, no other beacon can be assigned the same identifier combination.

Beacons are shipped in the BlueCats Region. The BlueCats region is a shared and changing Major, Minor, or Instance ID values is prohibited. If you wish to change the identifier(s) of your beacons you must first create a custom region.

Creating a Region

Navigate to the Region section of the web app by clicking on Regions tab.

Press Create New Region.

Region Options

Region Name - The display name of your region.
Region Identifier - The identifier for the region.  This will automatically populate.

iBeacon
Proximity UUID Options:

Enter: Self-input your Proximity UUID.  You may use the cog to the right of the input field to generate a random Proximity UUID.

Select Existing: You may choose to select a shared or pre-established Proximity UUID.  Public regions include the BlueCats region and Proximity UUIDs of several other beacon manufacturers.  These regions and are managed by the BlueCats platform and you may not self select major or minor values.

None: Do not establish a iBeacon value for the Region.

Major Options:
None: If you wish to custom select these values or have major and/or minor values automatically assigned in a sequential manner choose this option.

Select specific: If you wish to have the region defined by a specific major value select this option.  You will not be able to change this value at a later date.

Pick one for me (major only): This option will pick a the lowest available value.

KeepAlive Key
The KeepAlive key sets the iBeacon Key used for KeepAlive advertisements.  KeepAlive advertisements are used in conjunction with non-static advertising modes like secure mode to wake up apps on iOS devices when in the presence of a beacon.  You may wish to alter the default region for your secure beacons when users may have other apps containing the BlueCatsSDK present on their iOS devices and therefore triggering incorrect app recommendations.

Eddystone
Namespace Options:
Enter: Self-input your Namespace ID.  You may use the cog to the right of the input field to generate a random Namespace ID.

Select Existing: You may choose to select a shared or pre-established Namespace ID.  Public regions include the BlueCats region and Regions of several other beacon manufacturers.  These regions and are managed by the BlueCats platform and you may not self select Instance IDs.

None: Do not establish an Eddystone-UID value for the Region.

Applying the Changes
Changes made via the web app can be applied to beacons in two different ways.

Via the SDK: The BlueCats' SDK  can update beacons remotely if the crowd sourced beacon updates are enabled.

Via BlueCats Reveal (BC Reveal) or the Web App: You may update a beacon directly through using BC Reveal or create a new version in the Web App for application with BC Reveal.  After a setting has been changed via the web app, an update button will appear within the beacon cell in BC Reveal.
